Learning outcomes
You are expected to display the skills necessary for obtaining the Foundation qualification and demonstrate the ability to apply P3O guidance effectively in creating, implementing, and managing a P3O model. Specifically, you should be able to:
Develop the business case required to obtain senior management approval for the P3O.
Identify and build the most appropriate P3O model, which will adapt to the organisation's needs, taking account of its size and portfolio, programme, and project management maturity.
Identify the most appropriate roles required to populate a specified P3O structure.
Plan the implementation of a P3O.
Choose and use appropriate tools and techniques while running the P3O and advising those who shape the portfolio of programmes and projects.
For the 2013 edition
Exam Format - Objective testing.
Number of questions - Four questions of 20 marks each, 80 marks in total.
Duration - 150 minutes.
Pass Mark – 40/80 (50%).
Materials allowed - Open book exam. Candidates may use the official printed hard copy of the Portfolio, Programme and Project Offices: P3O guide. The manual may be annotated and tabulated, but no sticky notes and loose-leaf papers containing additional notes will be allowed.
Before booking an exam that requires a prerequisite, please ensure you have verified proof of completion, such as a certificate or a confirmation letter from AXELOS or a previous Examination Institute confirming your current certification. Your exam results will be withheld until the necessary prerequisite documentation is submitted to PeopleCert. If you cannot provide the required prerequisite, you must complete it before your higher-level exam results can be released.

Does P3O certification expire?
Yes, the P3O Practitioner certification expires after five years. To maintain your practitioner status and avoid any gaps in your qualifications, retaking the P3O Practitioner exam before this period ends is essential. From 2023 onwards, all certifications under PeopleCert Global Best Practice, including P3O, require renewal every three years.
Furthermore, P3O Practitioners must undertake a re-registration examination three to five years after their initial certification. This re-registration exam helps maintain your accreditation, demonstrates your ongoing commitment to Continuing Professional Development (CPD), and ensures your expertise in P3O is current.
Reregistration is not required for those who have completed only the Foundation level of P3O certification.
