Agile Certifications Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between Agile Foundation and Practitioner?

AgilePM Foundation covers the DSDM methodology, a practical and repeatable approach. The course shows how to plan and run an Agile project, focusing on key documents, Agile techniques, roles, and responsibilities. The AgilePM Practitioner course is more advanced, focusing on applying Agile practices in a scenario-based application and managing projects using Agile principles effectively.

What is the AgilePM practitioner qualification?

The AgilePM Practitioner qualification is an advanced certification that demonstrates your ability to apply the AgilePM methodology to manage projects efficiently. It equips you with the necessary skills to lead teams, manage Agile projects, and apply Agile practices across different environments and scenarios.

Should I do PRINCE2 Foundation or Practitioner?

The AgilePM Practitioner qualification is an advanced certification that demonstrates your ability to apply the DSDM Agile framework in real-world situations. It equips you with the skills to lead Agile projects, make informed decisions about tailoring the approach, and manage the complexities of Agile delivery across different organisational contexts.

How long is an Agile practitioner valid for?

The AgilePM® Practitioner certification is valid for five years from the date of issue. To maintain your status as a registered Practitioner, you're encouraged to engage in ongoing professional development and can renew your certification through APMG International's membership scheme.

What is the difference between a PMP and an Agile practitioner?

PMP (Project Management Professional) focuses on traditional project management techniques for large, detailed projects, while Agile Practitioner focuses on Agile methodologies. AgilePM is designed for fast-paced, iterative development and offers greater flexibility in managing the Agile project lifecycle. In contrast, PMP takes a more structured and traditional approach, even when applied to Agile projects.

How long does it take to get certified?

The certification process begins with completing the five-day virtual course designed to prepare you for the APMG Foundation and Practitioner exams. After taking the exams, your results will be available within 48 hours or two working days. If you pass, APMG will notify you via email that your e-certificate and digital badge are ready for access in the candidate portal.

What is Version 3, and do I need to upgrade if I have an older version?

Version 3 is the latest update to the AgilePM framework, released to reflect modern working practices including hybrid teams, AI integration, and updated case studies. If you hold a previous version (Version 2) of the AgilePM certification, it remains valid.

However, if you're pursuing the qualification for the first time or looking to renew, Version 3 is the current standard and provides the most up-to-date knowledge for today's Agile project environments.
